Everyone who has had a pet knows that potty training can be a challenging step that often results in accidents on the carpet. If you are looking to replace your carpet, chances are you have heard that a quality carpet pad is suitable. And fortunately with modern advances, pet proof carpet pads are looking like a great investment. Just remember that the carpet pad is the cushioning layer between the subfloor and your carpet and is designed to prolong the life of your carpet and add extra comfort. We at Green Co Carpet Cleaning would like to expound on pet proof carpet pads for curious consumers.
How Do Moisture Barrier & Urine Resistant Carpet Pads Work?
The most important thing to remember about pet proof carpet pads is that they do not magically train your pet to use a specific area to relieve themselves, whether it is outside or in a litter box, nor does it magically erase the evidence of an accident. Having a pet proof carpet pad simply means it is specifically designed to repel the moisture that absorbs into the carpet, and prevents it from reaching the subfloor. With pet urine for example, unable to flood deep into the padding, it is contained above the pad where it eventually moves back into the carpet; allowing for more efficient cleaning and removing as well as the improved ability to neutralize the odors. The drawback is that the carpet can sustain more damage with the acidic nature of pet accidents, but with prompt action, that can also be avoided. Also know that since the urine can’t penetrate below the pad, the pooled urine will spread and if the problem isn’t cleaned and excessive accidents occur where they are neglected, the carpet can start to separate from the backing. Not only does the “pet proof” carpet pads repel urine, but all forms of liquid. With the pet proof padding preventing the moisture to absorb past the padding itself, it means the carpets will endure more abuse if not quickly treated. Knowing that information, be sure when you select the padding you invest in a high-quality carpet pad, as it extend the life of your carpet and maximize comfort levels.
Pet Urine Odor Neutralizer
To treat pet odor from the occasional, or frequent accidents, there are some methods you can try to eliminate them. Pet urine can be a challenge to remove; the consistency and sticky composition make it difficult. Even professionals can’t 100% remove pet urine, although we get the vast majority removed, especially in traditional carpet pads where the urine has soaked through. There may be some lingering residues but we can 100% neutralize the odors. Remember, urine saturates the carpets, penetrates the carpet pad, and soaks the subfloor and baseboards if they are close enough.
How to Eliminate Pet Urine Odors
To remove pet odor from your carpets, you will need white vinegar, baking soda, and mild dish washing soap.

2) Generously apply the mixture on the effected air, but do not over saturate.
3) Place paper towels or a plain white, dry cloth on top of the wet spot and stand on top until the liquid is absorbed.

5) Once dry, vacuum the area well.
